SES Frequently Asked Questions

How do I know if my student is eligible for free tutoring?

First, they must meet the state requirements: Students eligible for SES tutoring services must attend a Title 1 school that has been identified as “Needs Improvement” for 3 years and also must be eligible for the free/reduced lunch program.

Second, parents with students enrolled in a Title 1 school that meets the state requirements will receive notification through the mail and/or sent home with the student during the first few weeks of school.

How do I enroll my student in your program?

You must complete a County Enrollment Form. If you did not receive a form through the mail or sent home with your student, then you need to contact your school guidance counselor or secretary for further instructions.

Important! Every county has a deadline to receive the enrollment forms. If you miss the deadline it is likely you will not be able to enroll your student.

When will I know if my student is enrolled?

You will get a call from one of the providers you chose on the enrollment form you submitted.

The school district will begin giving student and parent contact information SES providers between the second and third weeks of September. Most school districts do this over several weeks due to the large number of students that are being placed.

If you do not hear from a provider by October 15th, we suggest contacting the school on-site facilitator (this is the person in-charge of SES at your student’s school) to find out if you are on the list to receive services. Many counties continue to place students with providers throughout the school year until the SES funds are depleted.

Not all students receive services. Eligible students are placed with tutoring providers on a priority basis. Some counties can not accommodate all of the eligible students due to a limited amount of government funding.

When does SES tutoring begin?

Services for placed students must begin by October 15th. However, students will continue to be placed and many may begin tutoring after that date.

How much tutoring will the student receive?

We provide 20 hours of one-on-one in-home (off-campus) tutoring to each student we serve.

Each SES provider sets their own number of tutoring hours (with county approval).

What is the schedule for tutoring?

We do not have a pre-set schedule. You will schedule your tutoring sessions based on your availability, not ours. We will work with you to create a tutoring schedule that works for your family.

Where does the tutoring take place?

Most private tutoring is done in the student’s home. However, we will meet in the library, after school day care, church, or any other county approved location.

We do not offer tutoring on-site at the school.

Will SES tutoring cost me anything?

No. There are no fees involved for parents of students receiving SES tutoring.
