I have tutored most of the Math and Science courses at Glendale Community College for four years, tutored troubled teens at the YWCA during the same time period, taught Algebra at Gerard Catholic High School for one year, and tutored around the valley for several additional years. My motivation is to be the best at what I do and to teach students self discipline, good study habits, and to impart difficult subjects with clarity using everyday examples and creativity. My own experiences with academics and from tutoring have shown me that practice does make perfect. When tutoring, I have often drafted my own quizzes that focused on key subject matter to help solidify the material. I have discovered that this method helps work through the most difficult concepts while highlighting areas that need extra attention. Nevertheless, it is important to have patience and tailor a lesson to the individual student's learning style in order to help make them a successful student.

During my undergraduate years at Brandeis University, I worked as a teaching assistant and volunteer tutor. My responsibilities as a teaching assistant entailed leading review sessions, holding office hours and grading exams/papers. Additionally, I volunteered for a year with the 'Waltham Group' (a student run non-profit organization) and tutored local elementary school students. Both my undergraduate and graduate education is heavily concentrated in the biological sciences. My education has been supplemented with 5 years of laboratory experience. Furthermore, I have developed strong time-management skills by completing 3 Bachelors degrees in a total of 4 years from a Tier 1 University as a well as a Master of Science degree in 1 year from a Tier 1 medical school. Teaching Style

As an grade A student in many of my Basic Sciences classes during medical career, I have focused my attention to teach or tutor two essential subjects, Histology and Physiology. I enjoy teaching and feel it is rewarding to me. I love sharing my knowledge for medicine and would like to persue in acedemic teaching after becoming a doctor. Because of my profession, I've learned to be very understanding and a good listener. Teaching at medical school, my classes were entertaining but at the same time very informative and helpful to students. After finishing Basic Sciences, two years of medical school, I can integrate all the primary subjects together to help student acheive an excellent score not only in their acedemic requriements but also in the borad exam - USMLE part I.

I will retire from the Cincinnati Public schools where I served for 30 years as a teacher, and as a high school principal, on June 30, 2008. I received a doctorate in Urban Education Leadership in 2004 and am credentialed to teach English and Communications/Speech. I hold a Masters in Reading. I have won numerous awards for my teaching. My area of expertise is in writing and research. I have tutored students in all levels of English from basic to Advanced Placement. As a principal, I tutored students after school so that they could successfully pass the Ohio State Graduation Test and also helped tutor students for SAT and ACT.

I am a very enthusiastic tutor and, as I stated in the previous section, believe teaching in such a way that the student gains a true mastery of the given subject. In a sense, I believe in each student understanding a particular concept in their own unique way that is consistent with their unique thinking processes. I strive to do this by relating a given concept analogously to something the student already fundamentally understands. I also create new problems to solve that probe the students’ progress and comprehension. I try to make these problems as realistic as possible to make them interesting to the student.

Being a Ph.D. candidate and appointed research assistant, I very much realize the importance of true comprehension of a subject. Not only do I hold two B.S. degrees in Applied Mathematics and Chemical Engineering but I also carry credits to the equivalent of a Non-Thesis Masters in Applied Mathematics and am one course shy of a minor in Chemistry. I have tutored groups of students for Sylvan Learning Centers, conducted one-on-one sessions with Educational Enrichment and independently, and prepared and delivered lectures for advanced undergraduate chemical engineering courses.
