During my Undergrad, I taught Math, Physics and Chemistry for Junior and Senior High students As a teaching assistant for 1 year at Clemson university, I taught Mechanics of Materials course for Sophomore class For the past 3 years, I've been tutoring Math (Algebra, Calculus, Advanced Integral calculus, Trigonometry, Geometry), Physics(Mechanics, Dynamics, Energy concepts, Thermodynamics, Electricity) and Chemistry(Inorganic, Organic & Analytical) for Junior, Senior High and Engineering level students.

Since I have a degree in special education and ESL, I have used many different methods of teaching. As a teacher I see myself as a facilitator. I want my students to be in charge of their learning, not me. I often ask a student “leading questions” instead of just giving them the answer. I also consider the audience when I am teaching. I ask myself...Are they familiar with our customs or not? Do they know our idioms or not?

I have a MS in Varying Exceptionalities. I also have 18 hrs of ESL. Currently, I am working on 18 hrs of English. I have taught pre-school through adults. I have taught many different kinds of students. I have taught international students, ESL students, and native speakers of English. I have worked in pre-schools, public schools, private schools, language schools, and colleges. I have tutored many different kinds of students from foster children to adults.

Teaching Style

The teaching style I use is completely dependent on the particular student being taught. I'm a big fan of the adage 'Give a man a fish, and he will eat for a day. Teach a man to fish, and he will eat for the rest of his life'. My objective is to teach a child not only the material, but how they best learn so that they can teach themselves. I enjoy using applicable references that are relevant to the child so that they will more easily grasp the concepts. I believe a personalized approach works best.

I have earned a bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering with a software focus along with a Sales Engineering minor. I was 3 credit hours away from both my Math and Business minors. In the last 5 years, I have tutored students in Basic Math, Algebra 1 and 2, Geometry, Calculus, Visual Basic, Physics, and Differential Equations. The cornerstone of my teaching philosophy and personal teaching goals is to help students develop their own thinking skills. I believe all students should leave the school armed with the ability to think for them selves, to think critically and to think creatively. Understanding how people learn is one of the significant aspects of teaching. This is linked to their “knowledge” background and maturity. The key to teaching is to relate to the audience by starting from what they know and building upon it. As a teacher I am totally involved with the class, dedicated to my students and 100% prepared to devote time and energy for their intellectual growth. Love for teaching evokes passion and dedication within me. I believe that the enthusiasm of a motivated teacher rubs off on his/her students, who derive the inspiration and encouragement which actuates their desire to learn. A good teacher should have sound fundamentals and command over the concepts. Fundamentals are the foundation intrinsic for mastering the subject; only teachers who are strong in fundamentals will be able to pass it on to their students. I believe that my strong command over the fundamentals will rub off on my students. I believe that the role of a teacher is that of a leader where you have to show the path, motivate, encourage, and lead by example. In short, my success lies in seeing my students succeed.

My enthusiasm and love for education can be gauged from the fact that I pursued three Masters degrees in three distinct but related fields. One cannot pursue engineering as a profession without having an affinity for Math and Analysis. Math was a passion for me from my young days and still very much remains so. I have a thorough knowledge and understanding of math. Right from my school days I was involved and loved to teach math. I invariably obtained A+ scores in whatever math test I took in my lifetime. For instance my GRE math score was above 95% of test takers' scores. I have taught Middle school, High school and under-graduate students in Algebra, Geometry, Trigonometry, Quadratic Equations, Applied Probability and Calculus.

Having earned two bachelors degrees (A Bachelor of Education in Secondary Education and a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science/Mathematics), and a Master of Business Administration degree (GPA of 3.81/4.00), I have the academic and professional competencies which enable me to produce positive outcomes in a teaching environment. During the last 2 years, I have tutored students in Statistics, Mathematics, Biostatistics, and English. Education has been a strong theme in my life and I know every kid deserves to have the same opportunity that I have had in my life. Even though I don't have any professional teach training, I compelled to help those that I can, using what I have learned. Everyone has a different learning style, so I believe in being patient and finding a unique way to teach each child according to his style. I am very patient and understanding person, who is willing to do what it takes to make a difference it at least one child’s life.

Having a Biochemistry degree, I am well trained in science classes. I was also required and excelled in math classes up to Calculus 3. Therefore, math and science are my strong points. I was a tutor for math and science in the Multi-Cultural Center at my community college for a year. I was also a Sunday school teacher at my church for kids ranging from the age of 8 to 13.

Teaching Style

While teaching, I constantly seek input from my students. I always try to make them feel comfortable in class, and to let them know that they are the key to the success of the class. I try to encourage them to participate very often, and welcome all their questions and comments. I usually have my students work in groups to discuss problems. I use small groups (of 3 people) because they take the least time to organize, and they are the easiest to adjust to for those who always work on their own. I also encourage them to get together to do math problems outside the classroom.

Experience Summary

I worked as a teaching assistant in Organic Chemistry and General Chemistry courses while I worked toward my own master’s degree at the University of South Dakota. This experience gave me the opportunity to transfer from online tutoring to classroom teaching and individual tutoring. The total experience has educated me with the ability to handle students based on their own style and teach them the subject in creative way.

I love tutoring. It allows me to see the result of my work. When a student comes to me, I try to see what is wanted of me, then I try to find student’s weak points in terms of learning and subject matter and to understand what kind of learner he or she is. Overall, I tend to analyze a person in a way that will allow me to help him, to heal his injury by filling his knowledge gap. I believe that the most efficient learning happens when a student himself has a strong desire to gain knowledge. I believe that the key to a successful tutoring work lies in finding a right approach to a student's learning issues and provoking in this student that important desire to learn.

Experience Summary

My tutoring experience started in High School, where I tutored privately mathematics and physics. By the time I got into college, tutoring became my passion. I started tutoring general chemistry during my sophomore year after I was able to gain a profound understanding of the subject. Later on I also started tutoring Biology, Physics and Organic Chemistry. I have also worked in the SEEK Department of Hunter College, where I had to tutor these sciences for students with special educational needs, organize science workshops and teach freshman orientation seminars. There is nothing I have so far experienced as rewarding as seeing the progress and the result of one’s own work – especially when this work influences and helps lives of other human beings.
