During my Undergrad, I taught Math, Physics and Chemistry for Junior and Senior High students As a teaching assistant for 1 year at Clemson university, I taught Mechanics of Materials course for Sophomore class For the past 3 years, I've been tutoring Math (Algebra, Calculus, Advanced Integral calculus, Trigonometry, Geometry), Physics(Mechanics, Dynamics, Energy concepts, Thermodynamics, Electricity) and Chemistry(Inorganic, Organic & Analytical) for Junior, Senior High and Engineering level students.

Since I have a degree in special education and ESL, I have used many different methods of teaching. As a teacher I see myself as a facilitator. I want my students to be in charge of their learning, not me. I often ask a student “leading questions” instead of just giving them the answer. I also consider the audience when I am teaching. I ask myself...Are they familiar with our customs or not? Do they know our idioms or not?

I have a MS in Varying Exceptionalities. I also have 18 hrs of ESL. Currently, I am working on 18 hrs of English. I have taught pre-school through adults. I have taught many different kinds of students. I have taught international students, ESL students, and native speakers of English. I love teaching students and to explore subjects with honesty, creativity, and comprehensive scope. I have never met anyone who could not learn and approach each student from an understanding of where they are, what they may have overlooked, and where they need to go. I have tutored most of the Math and Science courses at Glendale Community College for four years, tutored troubled teens at the YWCA during the same time period, taught Algebra at Gerard Catholic High School for one year, and tutored around the valley for several additional years. My motivation is to be the best at what I do and to teach students self discipline, good study habits, and to impart difficult subjects with clarity using everyday examples and creativity. Throughout my educational experiences I have sought true understanding rather than simply a grade with a stamp of acceptance. I've also worked as a Materials Analysis Engineer, Semiconductor Failure Analysis Engineer, and Metrology Engineer. I can teach most math, electronics, and science courses at the high school and college levels.

First and foremost, I believe it is important to establish a trusting relationship with those you teach. Throughout my experiences in the field of education, I have found the most fruitful of those relationships to be those in which I was able to work with a student or group of students regularly over an extended period of time to develop a routine and a strong relationship in which great amounts of learning and understanding could be accomplished. Although many people experience obstacles in learning Mathematics, I believe that by presenting multiple ways to approach a problem, every student can find a method that works for them. Every student should be allowed the resources and opportunity to realize that they CAN achieve their goals. I am here to help students who have had difficulty with Math in the past to succeed, and feel confident in both their abilities in Math, and in life.

As a student, I was always committed to learning and to achieving my goals. As a teacher and tutor, I strive to help others share the same love for learning and for understanding as I do. Now, I help others set goals, and work toward achieving them. I have worked with all ages, all ability levels, and various sized groups and have enjoyed each and every experience. In the past, I have primarily tutored in the subject of Mathematics, but am also trained by the Literacy Council to tutor reading and writing, and have enjoyed volunteering with that organization as well. This helps me build an individualized program to target their specific needs and to enhance their strengths. I like to challenge the students to always reach higher and to learn in a meaningful and enjoyable manner.

As a reading specialist in New York for the last 4 years and a tutor for 10+ years, I have enjoyed teaching students and leading them to success. Continually retooling myself professionally has kept me motivated to learn new techniques and strategies to help students achieve their goals. Because of my many encounters with struggling learners, I understand the academic and social demands on kids. When frustrations arise in school, specialized tutoring can attend to the children's needs and alleviate their struggles. With proper, targeted instruction, I have helped students succeed, feeling more confident to participate in school lessons and activities. With various high quality literature, non fiction, high interest magazines, manipulatives for word work including developing spelling and decoding skills, I have been teaching students with much success. I have also been trained and certified in the Wilson Reading Program. Using this multisensory, phonics-based program, I have led many non-readers to reading with confidence.

Throughout my teaching experience I have encountered students of all ages and abilities, from high school students with learning differences to adult learners of ESL. I believe each student is unique and brings their own set of experiences and strengths to the material to be learned, necessitating an adaptable teaching style. I am experienced in the communicative approach and believe each students learns best through discovery and by utilizing their particular intelligence. I am patient, relaxed and treat each student with respect. I think students learn best when they are having fun and have a trusting relationship with their teacher.

While working towards my bachelors degree in English (with a minor in Political Science), I worked as a substitute teacher in the public school system for a year and a half, in order to ascertain my affinity for many different levels and subjects. My writing and grammatical skills are excellent; in 2004 I was awarded First Place in Undergraduate Writing at the University of North Florida. My first professional teaching experience complemented my areas of expertise perfectly: I taught English as a Foreign Language to business professionals in Argentina for six months, using the communicative approach. During this time I learned much about South American politics and culture, as well as the Spanish language. Upon return I taught English to high school students for one year at a private school for students with learning disabilities and emotional/ behavioral problems. This summer, I have again taught international students at a Berlitz ESL program, ELS Language Center. Throughout the years I have also tutored and worked with students one on one many times, specifically with rudimentary reading and writing.

I believe every student is different and has his or her own way of learning. That’s why one of the most important things in being a tutor is the capability to listen to your students and understand their needs. Another fundamental quality in tutoring is the ability to make it fun and interesting for the student by developing a rapport with them. If the students aren’t comfortable or aren’t enjoying what they are learning, then there is no interest in retaining and applying the information. I am also a firm believer in using the Socratic Method to help students learn. I especially like asking students to explain how they came to their conclusion. I believe this forces them to understand the fundamentals surrounding the answer rather than giving a memorized response. Ever since I was a child I loved to learn. I would read anything I could get my hands on to discover more about the interesting world we live in. My love for learning earned me a full scholarship to the University of Florida where I graduated with a BA in Economics. While at UF, I mastered my mathematical skills and critical thinking but it wasn't until I was working for an economist that I truly learned to write professionally and concisely. Today, I have become a well rounded individual who has never lost their love for learning. The only thing that has changed is that now I enjoy helping others love to learn through tutoring. Throughout my life I have tutored my family and friends but it wasn’t until recently that I began tutoring professionally. I have experience tutoring math, reading comprehension, science and economics. However, I am confident that I am capable of tutoring: writing, history, social sciences, sciences-(elementary, middle, astronomy, biology), economics, and psychology. I also have some experience with SAT Test prep.
