I love seeing students succeed. I am an excellent teacher because I really care, therefore I put in extra effort to planning and making lessons effective. When possible, I use materials that match student interests. I foster an emotionally safe learning environment so that students feel comfortable. I keep my interactions with students very positive. I believe that emphasizing what a student does right works better than focusing on mistakes.

My experience includes: • 2 years as a Reading teacher and 2 years as an ESOL teacher. • 8 years as a tutor. • 2 years as a manager and supervisor. • 10 years in technology and business systems I have a Master’s degree in Language Education, and I hold several Florida teaching certifications including Reading Endorsement. I have tutored elementary, middle and high school students, as well as adults. Subjects tutored include Reading and English.

Teaching Style

I begin each lesson with the understanding that different students have different approaches to understanding the same concept. I am therefore always prepared to use different approaches to help students who need extra help. Moreover, since I teach science and mathematics, I use day-to-day illustrations and innovative materials to facilitate students' learning. I hold a Bachelor of Science degree in Geology with Physics and Chemistry backing. I recently graduated from a doctoral degree program in Environmental Management with focus on hydro-chemical modeling of water resources using multivariate statistical methods and mass balance methods. I have taught Environmental Science, Physics, Chemistry, Physical Science, Algebra and Geometry for three years at the Passaic County Community College's college and Upward Bound Programs in New Jersey. I have also tutored students of the same program during the three year period. I am therefore confident that I would be able to teach the above mentioned courses without any difficulty.

Teaching Style

The teaching style I use is completely dependent on the particular student being taught. I'm a big fan of the adage 'Give a man a fish, and he will eat for a day. Teach a man to fish, and he will eat for the rest of his life'. My objective is to teach a child not only the material, but how they best learn so that they can teach themselves. I enjoy using applicable references that are relevant to the child so that they will more easily grasp the concepts. I believe a personalized approach works best.

I have earned a bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering with a software focus along with a Sales Engineering minor. I was 3 credit hours away from both my Math and Business minors. In the last 5 years, I have tutored students in Basic Math, Algebra 1 and 2, Geometry, Calculus, Visual Basic, Physics, and Differential Equations. I have taught math for the past 4 years at the Professional Academies Magnet at Loften High School in the subjects of Algebra I, Algebra I Honors, Geometry, Geometry Honors, Algebra II, Algebra II Honors, Statistics, Mathematics for College Readiness, and Liberal Arts Math.

I truly enjoy teaching. My strategy involves actively engaging the student in the learning process. I always try to develop personalized programs based on each student's strengths and weaknesses.

In 2006 I graduated from Bowling Green State University (Ohio) with a Master of Science degree. During my Master's program I worked as a teaching assistant in General and Organic Chemistry Laboratories. I was responsible for a brief introduction of the material prior to every lab period. This greatly helped me to learn how to organize material I was to present and explain difficult concepts in a simple manner. At USC as a Ph.D. student, I had a chance to work for the Student Athletes Academic Service where I was a chemistry and math tutor. In addition, during the spring of 2007 I was working as an assistant for the Organic Chemistry Course at LA Trade Tech College, where I was responsible for weekly sessions.

Being an educator various teaching styles were implemented, but my preference is Constructivism Philosophy of teaching. This philosophy introduces various techniques and strategies fostering a student-centered learning atmosphere. This method offered a structured setting for high and low functioning students. The students initiated and created positive effective learning opportunities in groups. This has established and maintained positive relationships with students, parents, colleagues and community advocators. This has fostered a safe and learning environment.

As a veteran teacher, I have managed classroom from elementary to secondary classes. I assumed diverse responsibilities from special and standard diploma students (reading, phonics, math, learning strategies, language arts, and career education). Conferred with parents weekly/ monthly, implemented various assessment tools to meet the varying academic functioning levels. Collaborated and assist in designing modified behavior plans for under achievers and potential at risk students. I am an enthusiastic educator with a passionate commitment to develop student’s achievement. I advocate challenging, enriching and innovating opportunities for exceptional education students. I am a team member who strives to effectively collaborate with all levels of staff members to establish quality relationships with students. I believe that students are wary of mathematics and statistics because they appear clinic and distant, with little to do with the “real” world. To educate I try to create dynamic and above all relevant “uses” for the lessons. My experiences have exposed me to different teaching styles and class formats and allowed me to develop a teaching philosophy that encompasses the best of all these methods. My philosophy is best described with reference to six primary concepts: 1. Knowledge conveyed in a relevant context 2. Interaction with each student and the material 3. Passion for teaching and the subject 4. Adaptability 5. Creativity in teaching methods and 6. Respect between the student and the teacher All students seek knowledge; it’s the teacher’s role to facilitate learning and guide them along the path. A successful lesson is one in which the student comes out seeing the world a little differently.

During my education and career, the teaching of others has featured prominently in my personal goals and life objectives. While attending high school, I tutored fellow students professionally in subjects ranging from basic algebra to complex calculus. My undergraduate degree was in the field of Mathematics and Statistics with an additional biological statistics certificate and at present I am completing my Masters of Science in statistics. My understandings of these fields lead to my recruit by a number of professors and researchers to provide assistance and advisement on statistical analysis of their projects. In addition to assisting my professors, I was also selected to be a Graduate Teaching Assistant, and was also selected to conduct "stand alone" courses. I have a strong passion for these subjects and I believe my years of teaching experience have given me the insight, patience and ability to convey the complex world of mathematics and statistics to my students.

I enjoy working with a student one-on-one. We know that every child develops on a different learning curve, which is why the tutoring process is so crucial. Working individually with a child can help them overcome some of the frustration and confusion that comes along with learning in a crowded classroom. I have a great amount of patience and understanding to help the child develop his own learning style and guide him to work through the problems at his own pace to ensure that he truly understands the material. Learning is a step by step process and I know that I can guide each child through the steps they need to take to complete any and all challenges they may face, not just in school, but in life.

I began tutoring algebra when I was in high school for my boss' kids in the back of the restaurant where I worked. I then went on to get my BA in mathematics at La Salle University, with a minor in Education. While in college, I continued tutoring my fellow students in math and chemistry for a peer tutoring program set up by the school. In addition I observed/student taught at various schools in the Philadelphia area. I have knowledge of a wide range of mathematics, my specialty being algebra and calculus. Due to my experience, I am also proficient in English and can assist in research paper writing.
